I have a few updates and minor changes to go over.

Napping Flexibility

Steve Pavlina started tweaking the rigid napping schedule after about two weeks as well. He found that the naps were more efficient and restorative if he took them when his body felt tired as opposed to at set times each day.

I have wondered over the course of my polyphasic sleeping experience why certain waking periods seem longer than others. At first I tried to combat this phenomenon and adjust my body so that all waking periods would feel similar.

The fact is that the body should not handle all waking periods the same way. There are certain variables like the amount of sunlight and the temperature, that ineluctably change the way we feel.

This increased napping flexibility is still in its early stages, but I plan to do something similar to Pavlina's method. He stretched his daytime waking periods and condensed his nighttime ones. Similar to his experiences, I have had little trouble feeling alert and energetic during the day. If I am tired, it is most likely nighttime. These new ergonomically designed naps will hopefully help conquer the occasional nighttime ennui and extend the joyful continuous daytime waking periods.

Coming Home and Getting Serious

I am leaving China tomorrow morning to come home to the beautiful Peninsula Bay Area (Northern California). I am a bit sad to be leaving China, for I truly had a enjoyable, informative, and life-changing experience here. That said, I really believe that Woodside is the best place to live in the Universe, so I am really excited to return.

Furthermore and on a more relevant note, I strongly believe that my return home will bode very well for my Polyphasic Sleeping. For the past six weeks, I have lived in a very small room devoid of air conditioning. It has remained over 80 degrees in this room even at night, and it is very humid here.

I also cannot leave the building at night due to Peking University protocol. Thus, I am trapped in a very small, hot room with a bed and a computer. It can be maddening at night sometimes because there is not much to do.

I am anxious to have cold, dry, California nights again and a house in which I can cook food, watch movies on a large TV, play with my dogs, go outside, and drive to places. I plan to use my future night intervals to be even more productive and innovative. I am looking forward to seeing how my polyphasic sleeping progresses when I am in a much more favorable environment.

Lifting

As I have mentioned before, I have been having these odd but enjoyable physical energy boosts during my workout times. Polyphasic Sleep has made me no less capable of lifting weights and running. I love being able to workout at weird times when everyone is sleeping. I have been lifting while polyphazing for about a week now. My workout consists of about 15-30 minutes of cardio and 30-45 minutes of lifting per day 6 times a week.

Pavlina seemed to be really cautious of working out while polyphazing. He also seemed very interested and curious vis a vis the body's recovery abilities. I have been working out very diligently. It is hard to neutralize all the variables and say for sure, but I feel as if there is no chance that polyphasic sleeping has made my body less capable of physical repairs. I believe that I would be more sore and less ready for the day-to-day physical burden of my workout if I was monophazing.

Tennis

I have had no problems with running, lifting, stretching, and plyo-exercises. That said, I have given up tennis while in China so that I could have more time to have authentic Chinese experiences. I figure I can play tennis anytime when I am home.

I am going home tomorrow. I plan to play tennis tomorrow (on US terms, two days from now on China terms). I am very curious to see how this will pan out. Tennis is much different from running and lifting because it incorporates a significant mental/intelligence aspect alongside the challenging physical components. I will be sure to keep you all posted with my imminent polyphasic experiences.

That is all for now. I am going to take a nap.
:)
